Your Chance to Design a Show Garden for RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show

RHS

Calling all amateur gardeners and aspiring garden designers! For the first time in its history the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show is opening its gates to one lucky amateur gardener in an exciting competition launched jointly by the BBC and the RHS. The competition winner will be invited to create a show garden of his or her own design at the world-famous show (9–14 July).

Launched on BBC One on The One Show on Wednesday 30 January, the competition will invite one aspiring garden designer, with no previous experience of design, to create a family garden at the RHS show.

Guidance from expert gardeners

The winner will join mentors, The One Show gardener Christine Walkden and RHS Chelsea Flower Show Gold medal-winning designer Adam Frost, on an action-packed journey learning about plants, garden design and landscaping. The winner will visit the RHS Chelsea Flower Show where he or she will see the world’s most spectacular show gardens and meet some of the best-known garden designers.

In the final weeks of build-up, Christine and Adam will be on hand to help the winning amateur designer create The One Show Garden at the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show, where it will be enjoyed by thousands of visitors to the show, and by millions more on television.

The One Show viewers will see behind-the-scenes footage of the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show and find out what it takes to create a garden at one of the biggest and best-known gardening events, celebrated for ground-breaking design and showcasing horticultural excellence.

How to enter

To enter the competition to create a family garden for The One Show, entrants will need to submit two garden design drawings for an 8m x 8m plot, their chosen plant list from an RHS selection of plants, and describe how the garden would work for the family they have in mind. The competition is only open to people who do not make a living as professional horticulturists or garden designers. Designs must be submitted by 1 March 2013. For more information on how to enter and all the terms and conditions please visit bbc.co.uk/theoneshow.
