The Eyeries Sensory Garden

Sitting beside the quiet stream, I take a breath and am gently assaulted by the smells of lavendar and thyme, and a whole host of scents that I can’t identify. If you want this same experience, venture to the Eyeries Sensory Garden which has just opened in time for the 2013 Eyeries Family Festival. Designed, built, and landscaped by local residents, and with land donated by an Eyeries businessman, the Sensory Garden is a delight! Enter by crossing the new footbridge that takes visitors over the sing-song river.

Take a breath, and walk down the path past a wide array of flowing plants, petals aimed toward the sun, and signs that encourage you to touch and smell and simply listen. Then walk further down and take a seat on the picnic table by the rushing stream, listening for bird song or the rush of gentle wind through the planted grasses, or take off your shoes to wash your toes in the clear waters. Designed to be wheel chair friendly too, it is an amenity that will give back to locals and visitors again and again. And all you have to do to receive this lovely gift is simply stretch your senses.
