The RHS is often asked what happens to RHS Chelsea Flower Show Gardens when the show is over. For one garden from this year’s show it is a pretty epic story. The Cloudy Bay Discovery Garden by top UK design duo Andrew Wilson and Gavin McWilliams was taken apart, placed in storage and the plants lovingly cared for, all in preparation for an exciting project.
Coordinated by Cityscapes – a garden festival taking place in London over the summer – the materials used in the garden have been remixed into four unique garden installations in the courtyard of the iconic OXO Tower Wharf on the South Bank of the Thames.
First to be displayed was the offering by Jon Sims (top left). This was followed by Anoushka Feilder’s design (bottom left), which will be on display until Sunday 8 September. That will be followed by Matthew Childs’ garden, which will be on show between 11 and 29 September, and finally Daniel Lobb’s design (2-20 October).
The fifth and final garden will be built by original designers Wilson and McWilliams in the Lindley Hall at the RHS London Shades of Autumn Show on 22-23 October. This is going to be a garden like no other. With suspended materials and dramatic design, it is something that has to be experienced first-hand. All the materials will then be given to local community garden spaces at the end of the RHS London Shades of Autumn Show.
Cityscapes was founded by Darryl Moore and Adolfo Harrison of Moore Harrison Land Design. It is organised in partnership with the South Bank and Bankside Cultural Quarter, and aims to bring a creative new approach to the way urban parks and gardens are designed, through the creation of temporary and permanent gardens.
