In collaboration with Upstart and Dublin City Council this summer, A2 Architects have master-planned a Pop-Up Park for Dublin City Centre. From 22nd August Granby Park will transform a vacant site on Dominick Street Lower into a place of creativity, nature, imagination, play and beauty. For five weeks there will be free arts events, outdoor cinema and theatre performances, live music, educational activities and a pop-up café open to the public.
The park sets out with a light foot: at one end, an A2-designed education hub/dining area/exhibition space will be housed within a 20x20m repeating multi-bay layout of partially covered aluminium poly-tunnels on a jigsaw-like platform of painted ply sheeting. The sheeting is arranged loosely so as to allow for pockets of intensive planting. At the other end, Seán Harrington Architects are developing an encircling open-air theatre enclosure constructed from layered palettes. Interstitial spaces between both ends will accommodate artworks, plantings, play spaces and cafe.
