Bloom, Ireland’s largest gardening, food and floral festival, brought to you by Bord Bia, will once again take place in the scenic surroundings of Dublin’s Phoenix Park from Thursday 30th – Monday 3rd June 2013. This year, Bord Bia is offering local gardening clubs or societies a unique opportunity to showcase their talents at the event which attracted more than 80,000 visitors last year.
Garden clubs and societies from all over Ireland are invited to submit an application to create a cameo garden for Bloom 2013. A total of 4 gardens will be chosen and displayed in various locations around the Bloom event. The show gardens, which will measure 2 metres x 3 metres, will give successful groups or clubs the opportunity to create a unique show-piece which can tell a story based on the garden club itself or its locality, or even a special person or character from the community.
Gary Graham, Bloom Show Manager said “We are delighted to offer gardening groups around the country – many of whom attend Bloom each year – the opportunity to get involved in this year’s show. Although the cameo gardens will be small, they will be perfectly formed and will allow garden enthusiasts the opportunity to demonstrate their talents to a wide audience while soaking up the unique atmosphere at Bloom.”
The cameo garden concept was trialled at last year’s event by Circle of Friends Gardening Group from Dalkey, Co. Dublin who created Bloom’s first ‘Garden Club’ Garden called “Reflections of a Hill”. The gardening group drew inspiration from their local surroundings of Killiney Hill and Dalkey Quarry incorporating quarry stone, springtime colours and replicas of a number of local structures.
Groups interested in getting involved should download the application form from www.bloominthepark.com. Bloom may offer support of up to €200 to assist with the costs of the installation based on certain criteria including garden approval by the Garden Advisory Panel and the applicant’s ability to fund any remaining costs. The closing date for applications is Thursday 14th March 2013.
