You will remember a few weeks ago I was talking about the great colour that poppies add to a flower bed. Well I am afraid to report that the colour is starting to fade from these lovely flowers. However the interest is not entirely lost!
While there is still one stray flower putting on one last burst of colour here, I am personally more interested in the seed heads that are left behind. As the season goes on I think they get better and better as they begin to dry out and turn a deep mahogany colour. They really look great when they are left intact during the winter and get adorned with frost.
My Name is David Corscadden and I have just finished my degree in horticulture from UCD. I have a keen interest in wildlife friendly gardens or as I like to call them “Wild Gardens”. I have in the last year taken a u-turn in what I thought I would do after college. I have moved more in to the literature side of horticulture and plan to do a masters in journalism next year.
