Monster Truck Gallery is pleased to present: Biosphere
Meadhbh O’ Connor
May 28th – June 7th
Preview Friday May 27th
Biosphere is the first solo show by Dublin-based artist Meadhbh O’ Connor. The show brings together new works arising from the experimental path O’ Connor’s practice has taken since graduating from IADT in 2009. Working predominately through installation, over the last year O’ Connor has begun to experiment with the use of living organisms in her work such as various plants and fungi. The show will also feature a text by Dublin-based curator Seán O’ Sullivan.
O’ Connor’s practice is characterised by a deep-rooted interest in science, particularly the employment of the scientific method as an attempt to understand the material world and how this is shaping modern thought. This has led to the undertaking of projects that reference a broad range of subjects such as ecology, physics, astronomy and geology. Her work walks a line between a desire for knowledge, and the observation of the pursuit of knowledge.
For Biosphere, O’ Connor will construct on-site installations that will feature over 1000 individual pieces of laboratory glassware, noxious weeds (Calystegia sepium) propagated from plants found in the streets of Dublin, an installation comprised of living mushrooms and other works.
Meadhbh O’ Connor graduated from IADT in 2009 with a first class honours degree in Visual Arts Practice. Since then she has been fully focused on and committed to the development of her practice, working up to seven days a week from Moxie Studios, Lad Lane, Dublin 2. Biosphere was kindly supported by Colm Meyler of Lab Glass Services, by Monaghan Mushrooms and by Dublin Indoor Gardening.
