Approval has been granted for a new training programme in the form of an MSc in Organic Horticulture. The programme has been developed by Professor Peter Jones, School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences (BEES), UCC and Mr. Eoin Lettice also from BEES.
The course will be offered at the Liss Ard Estate in Skibbereen, Co Cork. The twelve months Masters programme is aiming to attract students who wish to become commercial organic growers and there is also scope for potential employment in organic advisory and research
It is a new development in third level education in organic farming as, to date, there is no degree level course in organic farming or horticulture available in Ireland. The rationale behind the programme is to produce more growers and reduce our dependence on importing organic fruit and vegetables into Ireland.
