Dublin’s Deputy Lord Mayor, Councillor Claire Byrne announced Kilshane Court Older Persons Group (Finglas), as winners of the Dublin City Neighbourhood Awards 2012 at a ceremony held in Croke Park recently. In presenting the award the Deputy Lord Mayor said “the people of Kilshane Court really know how to care and have pride for the place they live in.
There is a real sense of community spirit in Kilshane and they have set a very high standard. It is obvious the residents are very active all year round as they recognised the huge level of work required in order to win the overall prize. All of this work, including weekly clean-ups is undertaken on a voluntary basis by residents”.
Kilshane Court Older Persons Group received the prize for runner-up last year and invested their prize money in carrying out improvement works at the entrance to the complex. They also installed a number of seating areas where the residents could sit and chat. All houses were presented with extremely well maintained gardens and waste bins were discretely stored with no signs of litter in the complex. Kilshane Court Older Persons Group, Finglas, the overall winner in the Residential Category received a total prize fund of €3,200.
Bernie Lillis who organised the awards on behalf of Dublin City Council said “the City Neighbourhood Awards are all about acknowledging in a meaningful manner the hundreds of hours of voluntary work done by people in communities all over Dublin. It recognises the work done by residents and businesses in this city to create vibrant, visible and viable communities. To receive the overall winner prize in a competition with 18 different categories is an outstanding achievement, well done to Kilshane Court Older Persons Group”.
