Looking for help with a worthy cause. Can you help?
Ian Price is a garden designer from Parkgate, Co Antrim. He has designed a show garden called “One for the journey” which is to be built in the Garden Show Ireland 2011 show in Hillsborough Castle between 20th and 22nd May 2011 (www.gardenshowireland.com). in association with the charity Aware Defeat Depression (www.aware-ni.org). The garden is a 10x10m plot in the grounds of Hillsborough Castle and it is also hoped to take the same garden to the Bloom garden festival in Phoenix Park in Dublin in 2012.
Ian says, “In order to produce the garden in May the charity and I are looking for support from companies to donate/lend materials in return for direct promotion at the show to the some 30,000 visitors expected over the course of the weekend. The majority of materials required to construct the garden have been very generously donated but there are a few key elements that are still to be secured, and this is where your company can help. The story of the show garden was published in the Irish News which was published on Thursday 24th March by Anne Hailes (journalist). I look forward to working with you in this very worthwhile venture. Should you require any further clarity or explanation on this project please do not hesitate to contact myself, Ian Price ianeprice@aim.com “
Aware Defeat Depression has been working since 1996 to support all those in Northern Ireland affected by depression or bipolar disorder (manic depression). The charity have an established network of over twenty support groups in rural and urban areas across the country, which are run by their trained volunteers.
One in four of us will experience depression in our lifetime, so depression is the most common mental health problem and one which we all have a responsibility to be aware of in ourselves and others. Aware Defeat Depression is the only charity in Northern Ireland which works exclusively with and for people with depression. Most of us have an understanding of the illness through caring for someone affected or from personal experience. Aware Defeat Depression believe that the people who use their services should have a say in how they are developed and delivered, so they employ people with depression at every level in the organisation, including the Board of Directors. Aware Defeat Depression rely on their dedicated and caring volunteers who run the support groups and helpline, many of whom began as users of our services themselves, to keep the charity informed and help them stay in touch with people’s needs.
The main mission of Aware Defeat Depression is to
- Reduce stigma
- Increase Understanding
- Support People
- Exert Influence for change
