Ceramics will form a central element of The Irish Craft Garden which is being designed by award winning landscape designer Fiann Ó Nualláin – a mosaic pathway meandering through the stunning garden space will grow as the days pass and the daily addition of ceramic sculptures and pots will create focal points. Discover the stunning outdoor craft pieces nestled in the undulations of The Irish Craft Garden that have been created by some of Ireland’s most talented makers. See for yourself how some of the most unexpected materials can be skillfully transformed to create craft pieces that sit perfectly in a garden setting.
Craft demonstrations, craft workshops and a dedicated craft retail area are amongst the exciting craft experiences that the Crafts Council of Ireland brings to Bloom this year. Visitors to The Irish Craft Garden can watch some of Ireland’s leading craftspeople working on-site in a variety of disciplines. See raw materials being transformed into a finished piece of craft before your eyes. If the mood takes you, unleash your creativity and try your own hand at craft in one of the daily craft workshops.
Over 20 of Ireland’s most popular crafts brands will have an outdoor stand in The Irish Craft Garden. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet talented Irish makers and learn more about their products. From garden and homewares to fashion and accessories, there is something to appeal to everyone. And if shopping is not your thing, just chill out in our ‘wander area’ where you can relax and take in all of the activity and excitement that is happening in the various craft areas.
- Craft Demonstrations at Bloom: Daily craft demonstrations hosted by Irish craft guilds will provide you with the opportunity to learn more about craft disciplines such as ceramics and woodturning.
- Craft Workshops: A busy programme of craft workshops is being planned for both adults and children. Roll up your sleeves and have a go at making a piece of craft yourself. The daily craft workshops are being run as part of the Crafts Council of Ireland’s Education and Outreach Programme.
We will of course have plenty of information on all of the exciting activities that are taking place throughout the country during Year of Craft 2011 and our team of staff and volunteers will be happy to fill you in on all that is happening in Ireland’s dynamic craft sector.
Visit The Irish Craft Garden at Bloom to see craft in action, experience craft making yourself and of course be tempted by the wonderful range of Irish craft on sale!
