1. Iris Reticulata: unlike most Iris varieties, this beautiful blue iris blooms in early spring. As it has a much shorter stem it looks particularly well in your flower basket arrangements. Also suitable for funeral work. It also looks very pretty on its own in a short bud vase in the centre of your dining table.
2. Hyacinths: What a fabulously scented flower to have either outside in the garden or inside in a beautiful floral display. This along with the peony has to be one of my favourite spring flowers. I love to use this in vase arrangements. It is a particularly nice one in a hall arrangement, as the smell greets me when I come home from a busy day in Flowers Now in Balbriggan. Grows really well for me in Stamullen.
3. Tulips: A delicate mid spring bloomer. What i particularly like about this flower is the array of colours and varieties. Your Spring arrangements will never look dull with tulips in them. My favourite design using this flower is just a simple bunch in a vintage jug. On their own no fuss. They also look quite pretty in a tall jar with cord or ribbon tied around the top of the jar. Sometimes the simplest ideas are the most effective.
4. Peonies: My all time favourite spring flower. Blooms from late spring to early summer. They have such a wonderful aroma that it is a must have in my garden. Established plants produce a large amount of flowers so you don’t need to feel guilty about cutting a few for your flower arrangements. I like to be reminded by peonies that summer is on the way. Also available in a variety of pastel shades.
5. Lily of the Valley: Yes it is another scented one but what a delicate beautiful flower. Loved by the royal family. I can certainly see why! Don’t underestimate this little flower. Once it gets comfortable in your garden it will grow all around. Can be an expensive flower to buy in, so this makes it also a great investment. With its lovely scent this makes it a great flower for wedding work. It is a great one to swop with neighbours in Ardgillan or Balbriggan for some of their pretty blooms.
