I am sure you are wondering where I have been this year? Well, to cut a long story short, I have been mighty busy and somehow my journal has been neglected, which is a shame since, at least in-part, its function is to record my activities and interests. So without dwelling too much on that, here’s what’s happening now:
I am back with my fourth garden at the Bloom garden festival, the annual horticultural feast held in the Phoenix Park in Dublin (Ireland’s version of the Chelsea flower show, no less)!
The Growise garden for Bloom 2011, designed by Tim Austen
This year, I am once again entered in the large show garden category garden with a garden designed for a creative person; maybe, an artist’s retreat. It includes sharply contrasting rustic and modern materials: there’s a funky, bold red boardwalk that cuts through the garden looking like a Milan catwalk, a beautiful hand-crafted cord-wood gazebo (made from sustainably sourced Irish timber), paving constructed from beautiful fossil-enriched Irish Liscannor stone, a contemporary steel seat, perspex pools and a rich tapestry of planting.
Like in 2009, I am going to try and post regular updates on the progress of garden construction. I also hope to provide you with more design information on each of the elements in the garden as we construct them giving reasons why I have chosen particular materials and their design purpose. Finally, I hope you like the design?
