Bord na Mona’s director for innovation and R&D believes there is only enough peat left in ireland to last another 25 years.
‘Peat will only last another 25 years’
The BNM manager, Hu Henry, told greentechmedia.com that the high carbon fuel would soon be gone and that the future of the fuel was not “sustainable on peat only”.
His comments come at a time when carbon emissions are sought to be eradicated and Henry said in the article that BNM would no longer be a peat-only company.
BNM is now looking into renewable energy and clean-tech products as Ireland strives to meet with the 2020 carbon regulations enforced by the European Union (EU) and recently released its annual report in which it cited a strong performance achieved on innovation and diversification, as well as an operating profit of €23m.
