Opening of OneTree365 Exhibition – The Year In The Life of A Tree

Opening of the oneTree365 -A Year In The Life Of A Tree Exhibition in Charlestown Arts Centre, Charlestown, Co. Mayo on Thursday 27th of February 2014. The exhibition is the culmination of a year long project recording the life of a single tree. Each day for 365 days I photographed the same tree and posted a photograph on the website, oneTree365.com. The exhibition will feature 12 canvas prints, projection o all 365 photographs and an installation suspended from the ceiling featuring each picture of the tree to create a oneTree365 woodland.

The exhibition coincides with national Tree Week 3rd march – 9th of March and to celebrate this, there will be free workshops and events throughout the week which are open to everyone, including twig art, ephemral art workshops, talks on trees, Scoodoos Sculpture workshop and storytelling. After the recent storms and the destruction of so many trees, this is an ideal moment to remind everyone of the importance and beauty of trees.

oneTree365 Project – A Year in the Life Of A Tree

On December 4th 2012 I started a photography project. To take a photograph of the same tree every day for a year. By recording the life of a tree for a year I hoped to strengthen my link with nature, to take a moment each day to appreciate the beauty of the tree and the world around me. On December 3rd 2013, I took the final photograph completing 365 days of photographing the one tree. Looking back over the year I was amazed by how many of the photographs were different. The images not only recorded the changes in the year of the tree, but the change each day of the world around the tree, the cloud movements, sunsets, sunrises and misty moments of silence.

oneTree365.com –sharing the project

Each day after taking the photograph I uploaded it on to a website which I created for the project. By sharing with others, my aim was to inspire others to take a moment to appreciate beauty in the world around us, and to appreciate the beauty and importance of trees.
