Lost Life Project Aims to Halt Species Loss – Philip Voice

The world is currently experiencing the sixth mass extinction event, caused largely by human activities that continue to damage and destroy biodiversity across the globe.

High extinction rates are typically associated with the most bio-diverse regions such as the tropical rainforests, however, it is vital that we do not forget about the species that live closer to home.

Over the past 200 years, over 400 species have been lost from England alone. This loss of biodiversity has been caused by a range of factors, such as habitat degradation and modification, the intensification of agriculture, pollution and poor land management.

There are still many species in England that are edging closer and closer to extinction every year.

The Lost Life Project, which is run by the Species Recovery Trust is raising awareness about the extinctions they have already occurred and by focussing on the very rarest species in the UK, aim prevent further losses from occurring.Click here to see all of the lost species.

After starting my garden maintenance and landscaping business in 1984 and running it for 21 years I decided I needed a change of direction (probably a mid life crisis, no seriously! :-0) Together with my family, wife Donna, Son Henry and Daughter Fleur (not forgetting Hector the Black Labrador) I moved to France in search of an old farmhouse to renovate. In the interim period whilst waiting for the contract to go through I started writing a blog. Initially just to keep a diary for family and friends to keep up with our progress if they wished but then it occurred to me that there isn’t a real time watcher of the landscape industry in the UK. I didn’t want to waste my experience and experiences so I decided I could put all of this Juice to good use so I started Landscape Juice.
