Summer has arrived! Keelings, the 100% Irish family owned company and experts in fresh produce, presents the first Irish strawberry of 2011, grown on its own farms – even earlier than ever before!
It is Keelings’ long standing expertise in the growing of strawberries and its passion for producing quality produce that allows the company to be first to market yet again this year.
Keelings estimates the Irish strawberry market to be worth in the region of €38 million. This successful Irish company grows in excess of 150 million berries every year from March through December. Over two million kilogrammes are strawberries and that equates to approximately six million punnets for 2011.
Keelings Irish strawberries are two days fresher than imported ones. In fact, by purchasing Keelings strawberries consumers are saving 600,000 food miles because there are 200 less trucks coming to Ireland from Spain and Holland. Keelings is delighted to be making this positive contribution to the environment.
Keelings has been growing berries since the 1940s. Over the last 35 years, Keelings primary activities have been growing, sourcing, shipping, marketing and distributing fresh produce from sources around the world to Irish, UK and European markets. Keelings is a 100% Irish owned and family run business with an annual turnover of €300 million and employs over 1400 people in Ireland and a total of 1700 people across the group.
