In September, wildlife crime fighters from all over Ireland will converge on County Meath. The Pillo Hotel in Ashbourne is the venue for the 2015 All-Ireland Wildlife Crime Conference organised and hosted by Wildlife Rehabilitation Ireland.
This conference draws participants from all areas of the wildlife protection sector in Ireland, including police, government agencies, NGOs and other voluntary organisations. It is a two day event that will bring together a diverse audience for a weekend of talks and practical sessions, with the intention of facilitating effective working relationships between the law enforcement bodies, charities, NGOs and the public in general.
Many of the invited speakers are individuals at the forefront of fighting wildlife crime in these islands. Topics will include: poisons and poisoning, poaching, environmental crimes, trade in wild animals, badger baiting, forensics, illegal traps and snares, as well as first-hand accounts of tackling wildlife crime. To complement the talks, practical sessions will take place to give a more ‘hands-on’ experience for conference-goers.
This highlight of the Irish wildlife protection calendar will provide an excellent opportunity for those attending to network and share ideas. The topical content of the conference is expected to help inform future wildlife crime policy and strategy. Those who attended the 2013 conference were enthusiastic in their feedback….
“Brilliantly executed and very informative”, “Will definitely assist me in my work going forward”, “Great opportunity to spend the weekend learning and exchanging views with people with the same interests”, “Very interesting weekend, well done to all involved”
Veterinary professionals are especially welcome and the conference has been accredited by the Veterinary Council of Ireland for 21 CVE credits (10.5 credits per day), and by the Law Society of Ireland.
