Students on the Horticulture Foundation Degree course at Greenmount Campus, supported National Conifer Week 2013 by planting a rare specimen conifer at Greenmount. They chose Pseudotsuga menziesii ‘Glauca Pendula’, a graceful small weeping blue Douglas Fir. Its small size makes it ideal for domestic gardens and like most conifers it is fully hardy, easy to grow, long lasting and most important for today’s gardeners it is low maintenance. The specimen adds to the vast array of conifers at the campus which are available for Horticulture students on a range of full and part-time courses to learn plant identification and about the correct choice of plant.
At Work – Foundation Degree in horticulture student Timothy Smyth (Lisburn) keeps a rare conifer steady while it is planted by Sam Dorman (Ballynahinch) in the grounds at Greenmount Campus in support of National Conifer week.
A good job well done – Foundation Degree horticulture students Conchobhar Kerr (Derry), Stephen Johnston (Carrickfergus) and Sarah-Jane Barry (Co Roscommon) helping to plant a conifer in the grounds at Greenmount Campus to support National conifer Week
