For a long time now, Dundrum College grounds was crying out for a brand new lawn. Last year students did an experiment on killing the old grass by “smothering” it with “Mypex”, a black colour membrane. They kept it covered for almost a year, and then the whole area was rotovated and sown with new grass seed.
The Summer was not our best friend, with such little rain, so in September, the new students were faced with the great opportunity of having to restore the lawn! Patches of weeds were completely removed, soil was prepared and new seeds were sawn.
As the spring came, the next task was to re-shape the lawn. One of the most important aspects of designing gardens is coming up with the correct shape of the general landscape, especially when it is in keeping with the theme.
We took into account the beautiful shape of the window arches in the building, and we used the same to inspire the landscape lawn.
We placed stepping stones across to the other side of the building, and we are now getting ready to plant. more pictures next week.
