Beginners Gardening Course
TCD Botanic Garden, Dartry, Dublin 6
Think you have green fingers but have always wanted to learn more about your favourite plants and how to care for them? If so, our beginners gardening course is just the thing for you.
Starting October 2014 and running until May 2015, it will be held one day a week at the TCD Botanic Garden in Dartry.
The course will be run by Botany Department alum – Hazel Proctor, who has worked as a head gardener in a private estate, as a garden designer (TCD Physic Garden) and as a lecturer of RHS Certificates in Horticulture.
The topics we will cover include:
>Where do plants get their name? |
>How to identify a range of plants |
>The right plant for your soil | >Choosing ornamental shrubs |
>Seed bed preparation | >Success with roses |
>Vegetables from seed to plate | >Perfect plants for herbaceous borders |
>Pests, diseases and disorders | >Propagation techniques |
>Know your weeds | >Pruning and training for beginners |
The course will also include some garden visits across the city to horticultural gems such as the National Botanic Gardens and War Memorial Garden.
The cost of the course is €800.00. A deposit of €300.00 must be paid by September 15th to secure a place with the remainder paid by the start of the course.
