Indulge yourself over the four seasons in the beautiful surroundings of Hunting Brook Gardens, Blessington, Co. Wicklow.
Students will attend thought provoking lectures with Jimi and guest lecturers picked from Irelands leading Horticulturists as well as practical demonstrations of all tasks plant related from seed collecting, sowing, cultivating & pruning to designing plant combinations.
Students gain in-depth knowledge of a wide range of ornamental plants used in various situations in the garden. On the course you will be provided with detailed notes on all plants covered at Hunting Brook, at least 50 plants per class. These notes, as well as the lectures will allow you to gain access to Jimi’s personal experience of plant growing from the ordinary to very exotic.
Garden & nursery visits will also be a feature of the course visiting stunning privately owned gardens not usually seen by the public eye, as well as guided tours of well know popular gardens by their owners or designers. One favourite of this year’s students was garden designer, Angela Jupe’s garden at Bellefield House.
This unique course is suitable for people with a love of plants and those who want to learn something new about gardens and gardening every month of the year. You will be learning with other gardeners, some who may have done various horticulture courses, others who just adore plants and want to improve their knowledge.
If taking part in the course you will have free all year round access to Hunting Brook Gardens.
Due to poor weather conditions there will be no course in the month of December and January but an extra day will be added to July and August to compensate for this. Any days that are missed can be repeated the following year.
On completion of the course each student will receive the Hunting Brook Gardens certificate in 1 Year Plant Persons Course. (No Exams!)
This course is an excellent opportunity to see the changes in a garden over the space of a year. You will be afforded a thorough understanding of how Jimi creates combination boarders with their succession of colour throughout the whole year.
