Young Hort is a group set up by young people involved in Horticulture in the GB and Ireland. It was set up in December 2013, via Twitter. It is means of meeting others and a networking platform for those in the industry. YoungHort aims are to help change the perception of Horticulture and increase awareness of how diverse and rewarding the industry is! We will also help and give advice to those considering a horticulture career. We feel we need to address the problem of less and less young people choosing Horticulture as a career.
We hope to achieve this by: Inspirational talks, promotions and ongoing discussions on how to improve the image of Horticulture amongst young people. We have already held our first event at RHS Wisley, which was sold out and was a complete success! We had celebrity speakers such as James Wong and Christine Walkden as well as opportunities to meet other likeminded people.
We hope to host other exciting events, conferences and social gatherings in the coming years all aimed at promoting horticulture and showcasing the talent in the industry.
To Become involved please sign up on our website, membership is currently FREE and open to anyone who is a student of Horticulture (regardless of age). Membership gives you exclusive access to our latest events, competitions and content. It only takes a few seconds!
We are also currently recruiting for YoungHort Ambassadors, whose job is to promote the initiative, be involved in projects, write blogs and attend various events. To apply for Ambassador positions please see our website www.younghort.com .
