What I loved About Working as Florist on Mothers Day in Balbriggan – Ruth Gallagher

I love that every year working at mothers day brings something new and different to the shop. Whether it be that little girl that comes in for her mum and spots a windmill for herself. The father who buys her the windmill and reminds her why they are here. The mums coming in to get something special for their own mum. Mums who have past but will always be remembered.

I have of course heard the comment “Mothers Day has gone very commercial”? and I can’t agree with that comment. Not because I am a florist but because I am a mum, and I don’t mean this in a, “where’s my present way”, but I feel that every one likes to be appreciated. Mum is the one you turn to when you cut your knee, when your uniform is dirty, when you can’t find your running shoes or when you just feel sad and need a hug. I know I have called on my mum a number of times over the years.

Taking that one day to make her feel special, to me is a very small price to play and yes as a florist I would love you to buy my flowers, and after we have made you that special bouquet, a long lie on in bed, breakfast brought up, house cleaned, ironing done……. are grateful appreciated extras for any mum.

Our Mothers Day this year was much busier than last year and I am very grateful to all of our wonderful customers and their continued support in allowing Flowers Now to grow from strength to strength. When arriving first to Balbriggan I had concerns that it was a drive through town. It has proven to my delight to be the complete opposite. Ballbriggan is a friendly town full of warm people who know and care for each other. Nora is well known in the town for her kindness and every Friday she drops in scones to the girls in our shop, never expecting payment. Just because that is the kind woman she is and we love her here dearly. Nora is one of many kind and wonderful women who deserve to be spoilt and recognised on Mothers Day.

I hope you spoilt your mum this year as I did mine and did I give her flowers??? Of course I did she loves fressia and I am a florist after all. 🙂
