Giardino Della Mostra | Large Gardens | Bloom 2013

Giardino della mostra, translating generally from the Italian as “exhibition garden” or “garden of exhibits,” is a garden that encourages you to design your own garden to a strong theme whilst referring to the fact that a good garden is formed from the sum of its parts. The concept and layout are, in part, inspired by Ireland’s only permanent exhibition of show gardens at Gardenworld, Kilquade (the National Garden Exhibition Centre), Co. Wicklow.

Here, a wonderful collection of individual gardens, arranged around the central avenue, collectively inspire and encourage gardeners at all levels to follow a design in their own gardens. Although he is fortunate enough to work right across Ireland, Tim lives in Co. Wicklow, Ireland’s gorgeous Garden County, famed for its formal gardens and beautiful wild landscapes. Like all Irish people, Tim is very proud of his home county and so he has tried to capture some of its essence in this garden. He is delighted that many of the people that are involved in the construction of the garden are also from Wicklow.

Tim Austen is a multi award-winning garden designer and the owner of Austen Associates a successful, high-profile, Wicklow-based landscape architecture and garden design practice. He was a judge of garden design on two series of RTÉ’s popular Super Garden and this year he is mentoring a contestant on the show. He is also a special guest, design judge and creator of gardens at the annual Northwest garden show, Castlefinn. He has been profiled widely in the Irish press and his work and gardens have been featured in the Irish Garden, Image Interiors magazine and Gardens Illustrated. Tim’s Bloom CV includes a Gold medal and Peoples’ Favourite Garden at Bloom 2008, a Gold medal and Best in Large Gardens Category award at Bloom 2009 and a Silver-Gilt medal for his 2011 large garden. He also worked for the charity VSO (Voluntary Service Overseas) to produce the ‘Dollar-a-day’ garden at Bloom 2010; this garden highlighted projects to improve nutrition and water-quality in some central African countries. Tim is an accredited designer with the Garden and Landscape Designers Association (GLDA) and is a member of the GLDA Council. He is currently Vice President of the Irish Landscape Institute. Tim also writes the popular garden design blog www.timaustengardendesigns.com
