Scientist Dr Joanne O’Reilly has launched a new Irish organic face care range called Kinvara Skincare. Originally from Kilkenny but now based in Kinvara, Co Galway, O’Reilly developed the range after trying out numerous beauty products to treat her own dry and inflamed skin.

“I was always looking for a good moisturiser and I tried them all and still found I had to reapply after a few hours. I developed my Rosehip Face Serum in response to that need for serious hydration and moisturisation,” she said. The current Kinvara Skincare range includes two other main skincare products – Rosehip Day Cream and Absolute Cleansing Oil.

O’Reilly’s professional background is in science, specifically the ecology and conservation of the Asian elephant in Indonesia. She has additional postgraduate qualifications in community development and continual professional development in cosmetic formulation.

“As a scientist working in Asia, I saw first-hand the amazing potential of plants in caring for your skin,” she said. Suitable for men as well as women, the handmade products are packed full of plant extracts and preserved using gentle methods. They are available in health stores and pharmacies as well as online. The new company is currently developing new products to complement the existing skincare range.
