The RHS has welcomed the consultation on the National Pollinator Strategy for England as a significant step in understanding and counteracting the pressures on bees and other pollinators.

Tree Week 2014

The theme is "The Sound of Trees". This year 15,000 trees provided by Coillte will be planted by community groups all over the country. Since its inception, over half a million trees have been planted throughout the country during Tree Week.

Spring Plant Fair at Bellefield House, Shinrone, Co. Offaly - 8th March 2014

Spring Plant Fair will commence on Saturday March 8th at 11am and continue till 4.30 pm. Over 18 specialist nurseries are featured, together with garden crafts, botanical art, and of course, the coffee shop will be open with home cooked food! Bellfield Gardens will be open with its wonderful displays of snowdrops, hellebores and daffodils.

World Flower Show 2014

20,000 Delegates expected to attend Dublin event. The countdown has started to the 11th World Flower Show, due to take place at the RDS, Dublin, in June 2014. In a major coup, Ireland has been chosen as the host nation for this prestigious international flower show, which is seen as the Olympics of flower arranging. This is the first time Ireland has hosted this spectacular event.

Minister Tom Hayes Launches National Tree Week 2014 in the Garden County

National Tree Week 2014 is now in full swing, after being launched in Co. Wicklow recently by the Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine Tom Hayes. At a free, family day held at Powerscourt Estate in Enniskerry, Co Wicklow, Minister Hayes was joined for a tree planting ceremony by school children from the nearby Powerscourt National School. 2,000 free trees were also given out to members of the public who attended the event.

Garden Show Ireland Launch

Celebrating its 10th birthday, Northern Ireland's premier gardening event recently, launched its 2014 programme in the Show's stunning new venue - Antrim Castle Gardens. Running from 9th - 11th May, an expanded new look Garden Show Ireland will be packed full of all things gardening including appearances by Channel 4's River Cottage team, Alys Fowler from BBC Gardeners' World, Ireland's world-renowned plantswoman and broadcaster - Helen Dillon and much more.

Blossoming Future for 3D Printing

A university design graduate is demonstrating the enormous potential of 3D printing by using the technique to create inflatable rubber-like flowers. The vast majority of products created by 3D printers are rigid in form but designers like Richard Clarkson, from Victoria University in the New Zealand capital of Wellington, are using new materials to produce morphing 3D shapes.
