Strawberries are Cream of the Crop for 35 -45’s

According to a new Kantar report, there was a 14% increase in the retail value of strawberry sales to consumers in the 35-44 year old category in the last 12 months compared to the previous year, to reach €8 million.

EASY VEGETARIAN RECIPE: CHICKPEA & WALNUT WELLINGTON

It's easy to find ourselves in a tired routine where we churn out daily meals without thinking. When we're busy and have to conjure up menus that are not only quick to make, but healthy and balanced too, what was once a pleasure can soon turn into a chore as the same dozen or so recipes are recreated throughout the month. I remember Jamie Oliver suggesting we all try cooking one new recipe a week, giving us 52 new dishes a year and I promised myself I'd try it, but of course never quite saw it through as day-to-day life and activities took over.

Organic Recipe of the Week – Nettle Soup

This recipe is quick and easy and full of goodness. The nettles are very high in iron and make a great spinach substitute. Just be careful to wear thick gloves when picking the nettles, be sure to pick young nettles as they are less fibrous. An old Irish wife's tale recommends that you eat nettle soup three times in May in order to purify the blood, so you better get picking!

We’re Back in Bloom!

Wednesday, 6th May 2015: Bord Bia today launched its plans for Bloom 2015; a five day annual event packed full of gardening inspiration, gastronomic delights and good old fashioned family fun! Now in its 9th year, the Bord Bia festival has firmly established itself as one of the most anticipated social events of the year, not just for those with green fingers, but for all who enjoy a fantastic day out in the beautiful surroundings of the Phoenix Park in Dublin. Attracting a nationwide audience – with over 106,000 people attending last year – this year Ireland's largest garden, food and family festival will run from Thursday, 28th May until Monday, 1st June 2015.

Historic Antrim Castle Gardens the Venue for Allianz Garden Show Ireland 2015

Antrim Castle Gardens is an historical gem. The 400 year old gardens are unique in Northern Ireland. A recent £6m restoration project supported by Heritage Lottery Fund has now preserved this historic site for generations to come.

New 'Seed Stand and Seed Orchard Scheme' Announced by Hayes

Tom Hayes TD, Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine with responsibility for forestry, today announced the launch of a new Seed Stand and Seed Orchard Scheme. The Minister of State made the announcement during his keynote address to the National Conference on ‘What shall we do with our hardwoods’, organised by the Wood Marketing Federation and the Society of Irish Foresters, in Johnstown Castle Hotel, Enfield, Co. Meath.

Clare County Council has confirmed that Phase 1 of the Ennis Market Rejuvenation project is now proceeding to tender stage and construction is expected to commence in the autumn of 2015

The €1.75m loan for the Market Rejuvenation Project in Ennis, which also includes the upgrading of the streets adjoining the market area, is now in place.
