Transformed Cork Landfill Site Shortlisted for ‘Best Public Park’ Award

Tramore Valley Park (formerly Kinsale Road Landfill) in Cork has been shortlisted for the Best Public Park Award in the Community & Council Awards 2017. The awards ceremony will be held in Dublin on 4th February.

Strawberry Sales are Bloomin' (National Strawberry Week 2016 starts Monday)

Irish strawberry sales are bloomin' according to new figures released today on day three of Bord Bia's Bloom festival. Retail sales have increased by almost 20% year on year, with over 7.7 million kgs sold in the last 12 months, valued at €74.3 million (source: Kantar). The increased sales figures are welcome news for the industry ahead of National Strawberry Week, which takes place from the 6th to the 12th of June.

Bord Bia announces Bloom 2016 Medal Winners

Record number of Gold Medals Awarded at Bloom 2016
Thursday, June 2nd 2016: Bord Bia today announced the Bloom 2016 medal winners with the Overall Large Garden category award going to Alan Rudden from Westmanstown, Co. Dublin for his Chilean inspired ‘Santa Rita Living la Vida 120 Garden’. Earlier this year, while researching the project, Alan travelled to Chile to visit the Casa Real Estate, home of Santa Rita wine. The contemporary Latin American garden includes an alfresco dining area and a pool surrounded by Mediterranean arid planting.

The Legend of Tarzan - Small Show Garden Bloom 2016

This show garden is inspired by “The Legend of Tarzan”, the breath-taking adaption of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ classic tale, coming in July 2016. The garden invites visitors into a verdant African jungle, with a skilled design that seems deeper and larger than the garden’s dimensions.

When I was about 5 or 6, one of the first things I thought myself to do was to get Geraniums to produce roots by simply placing them in a saucer of water. My pocket money, far better spent on compost (and football stickers) once I'd figured that technique out and moved onto propagating Cacti, that in mind, could never afford me the luxury of purchasing rooting powder.
