Our Origin is Green’ Garden Awarded Top Prize at Bloom 2015

 
Jane McCorkell, Kilsallaghan, Co.Meath received the highest accolade, overall large garden winner, at Bloom today for her 'Our Origin is Green' garden. The gold medal garden, which represents a trip through Irish mythology, showcases Celtic design through the use of modern Irish material. The design is inspired by a Celtic knot of two dogs found in the Book of Durrow. Later this morning, Bord Bia's Bloom 2015 festival will be officially opened by the President of Ireland Michael D Higgins.

INGRID SWAN of IS Design is a Landscape and Garden Designer working throughout Ireland. Following her studies at Limerick School of Art & Design Ingrid completed a degree in Landscape & Garden Design in Writtle College, Essex. With extensive design experience on a wide range of projects including domestic gardens of varying scales, stud farm and village design, Ingrid’s designs are driven by a passion for horticulture and the belief that a well designed garden will have a positive impact on everyday life.

Concept Show Garden at Bloom 2015 - Our Origin is Green

The garden concept for ‘Our Origin is Green’ has developed from a Celtic knot design of two dogs found in the Book of Durrow. Celtic design has been a source of inspiration for designers and crafts people for many centuries. The application to Landscape has often been through a rustic style. The purpose of this garden is to demonstrate Celtic design through the use of modern Irish materials.

Concept Show Garden at Bloom 2015 - Hugh Ryan

Hugh Ryan studied Architecture in Dublin in the early 70’s before progressing to Garden Design and establishing his own practice, Hugh Ryan Landscape Design in 1977 where he specialises in the design and construction of private gardens. Many of his designs have received recognition both at home and overseas and have been published extensively.

Concept Show Garden at Bloom 2015 - Yeat's Secret Garden in Sligo

This garden is purely imaginary. It exists only in the head of a poet: the private bolthole in his beloved Sligo that Yeats dreamed of while living in smoggy, grey London. Peeking in, we are voyeurs, seeing a clearing on a wooded island, with the lake lapping on the tree-lined shore beyond. Nothing is perfect – Yeasts hasn’t tried to tame or tidy his secret hideaway.

Concept Show Garden at Bloom 2015 - Fiann Ó Nualláin

Fiann Ó Nualláin is an author, broadcaster and perennial bloom designer. With a background in medicinal botany and holistic therapies he is an advocate of the healing potential of the garden and has worked in the field of horticultural therapy for almost two decades.

Concept Show Garden at Bloom 2015 - Crumlin Childrens Hospital Garden Presented by Kildare Growers

This garden is presented at Bloom by the Kildare Growers Group, facilitated by Kieran Dunne (L&K Dunne Nurseries) and designed by Anthony Ryan (Landscape Architect).

RHS Chelsea Flower Show Garden Product of the Year 2015

The RHS Chelsea Garden Product of the Year 2015 has been awarded to Agralan Ltd for their ingenious Potato Pot. This innovative potato planter allows you to check the development of the potatoes and pick them week after week without digging the plant up.

Concept Show Garden at Bloom 2015 - Connect - Karen M. Butler

Landscape Architecture graduate from UCD with an art and fashion background from NCAD and Central St. Martin’s, London. Keen interest in creating spaces in which people relax, escape and interact with each other enjoying the outdoors; creating outdoor living rooms where memories are made.

Ideas for Teacher that Won't Break the Bank

It's getting close to the end of the school term again. That time of year when we look forward to the occasional trip to the beach with our little gems. Weather permitting of course?? The hanging question arrives!!! What will I get teacher? or will I get anything for teacher?? Hummm.. I have two children in school, what if I had four plus children? That would be extremely costly coming into the summer. Or would it be?

ITB and Fingal County Council at Bloom 2015

 

Fingal County Council has worked closely with the Department of Horticulture at ITB for the past 4 years providing a training ground for their students in Beech Park Gardens, Clonsilla, Dublin 15. The students have gained invaluable work experience in garden restoration, plant cultivation and plant identification under the guidance of John Harrington, Chargehand Gardener in Fingal County Council who has worked in the horticultural industry for more than forty years.

Concept Show Garden at Bloom 2015 - Ingrid Swan

Ingrid Swan has a degree in Landscape & Garden Design and has worked for professional garden design practices for over 12 years. Last year, Ingrid launched her own garden design business when she undertook her first garden at Bloom. She received a Gold Medal last year for The Garden of Sculptures in the Concept Garden Category.

BFEI Landscape Design Students To Celebrate Modern Living at Bloom 2015

Having won awards at every Bloom in the Park since its inception in 2007, landscape design students from Blackrock Further Education Institute (formerly Senior College Dun Laoghaire) are set to turn heads once again at Bloom 2015. With garden creations including, A View Askew, Furrows of Sustainabilty, The Labyrinth, The Clearing, Aspire, The Garden That Nobody Saw, ArGhairdinCuil and last year’s gold medal winning, Facing South, this year’s entry comes with an excellent pedigree.

This June Bank Holiday Weekend Dublin will be taken over by plants, gardening and food. Not only will the Phoenix Park turn into a mecca for gardening enthusiasts but the magic of the festival will make its way down into the streets of Dublin with the Bloom Fringe Festival.

Charity Gardens are Big at Bloom

The show gardens at Bord Bia's Bloom always strive to not only entice visitors with their fantastic designs and plant selection, but they also aim to promote a key message to the public. This is especially true for Bloom’s Charity Show gardens which aim to highlight a particular cause or calls to action with the public. This year Bloom has four main charity show gardens on display, each of which is raising awareness for a worthy cause.
