Allianz Garden Show Ireland - Greenfingers Delight at Exciting Show Line Up

Antrim Castle Gardens will be all abuzz from 6th - 8th May 2016 as Allianz Garden Show Ireland returns to the beautiful venue for a three day festival of flowers, food and fun. With a renewed focus on gardens this year there will be more to entice and inspire every level of gardener, not least the return of firm favourite Show Patron Monty Don.

An Irish Garden by Jane Powers Wins UK Award

 

When I was in art college studying woven textiles, I won the Lillias Mitchell award for hand-spinning. I got a nice letter and a small cheque. That was decades ago, and I never won anything after that except for two raffle prizes.

Blogging, Friends and the Future of Greenside Up

I began blogging almost six years ago and the experience has brought me on an amazing journey. I've made some special friends, met a tremendous amount of talented people and learnt even more from them all.

On Thursday I received a message letting me know that the Greenside Up blog had achieved a Bronze Award for Health and Wellbeing at the Blog Awards Ireland, an honour and one I’m thankful for given that there were over 4,000 nominations, 1,800 entries and over 80,000 public votes for all the blogs.

Award Winning Bloom Garden comes to CUH

The ‘Lets clear the air with Cetriz’ themed garden, which won a well-deserved Bronze medal at Bloom in the ‘People’s Choice Award’ this year has found a permanent home on the grounds of Cork University Hospital. The garden will provide a relaxed space for patients and their families along with the dedicated team of staff at the hospital.

Farmleigh House – Plant Fair Sunday August 16th 10am to 5 pm

The annual late Summer Plant Fair will take place at Farmleigh House in the Phoenix Park on Sunday 16th August from 10 am to 5 pm. A significant number of ISNA members will be participating at this event. Garden writer Marie Staunton will give a variety of gardening talks on the day, and Christopher White of Three Gates Nursery will be giving a talk and demonstration of floral art. Make it a family day out with Food/Craft markets in the Farmyard, music in the Bandstand and a children’s garden area with games and workshops.

The Irish Independent, in conjunction with Bord Bia, is inviting readers to help design a 1916 Commemoration Garden at Bloom this year. This specially-commissioned garden will be brought to life by renowned garden-designer Fiann O’Nualláin.

RTÉ’s Super Garden Launches it’s New Search for 5 Budding Garden Designers

RTÉ (in association with Bord Bia, Woodie’s and Cuprinol) are launching their annual call out for designers ready to showcase their green fingered talent in Irish television’s only garden design show: Super Garden. The five chosen to take part will compete for the prize of creating a garden for this year’s Bloom Garden Show taking place in June in the Phoenix Park.

As I sat in a building and watched someone spray a herbicide outside the window, apart from the immediate sense of disappointment, the first thing I noticed was that they weren’t wearing any protection. Judging by the way they were emptying the liquid into the spray bottle, quite possibly they hadn’t paid any heed to the recommended dilution either.
