Celebrate ‘GreenFest’ at Dublin Zoo!


To mark Earth Day, Dublin Zoo is hosting a brand new event called ‘GreenFest’ on Saturday 23 April  and Sunday 24 April 2016.

‘GreenFest’ will see Dublin Zoo and a selection of Irish organisations join forces for a weekend of discovery and learning where visitors can learn more about the planet we live on, sustainability and native species.

Inspiring Children to Help Save the Bees! Junior Pollinator Plan Launched.

In 2015 the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan 2015-2020 [pdf 11.5MB] was launched, aimed at helping adults understand the importance of pollinators, the dangers facing them and things they could do to help.

Can We Save the Pollinators of Ireland?

 

The year 2015 was a momentous one for the pollinators when Biodiversity Ireland brought together a diverse range of people to begin a plan of action they hope will save these important insects. Sixty eight organisations from across the island, including the Community Garden Network who I represented, agreed they would help to carry out five plans of action over the coming years in a 2015-2020 Pollinator Plan.

 The National Biodiversity Data Centre has released the first set of National Biodiversity Indicators, designed to summarise trends in the health of our species, landscapes and seascapes. They also track broad changes in Irish society’s relationships with wildlife.

Have you ever been involved with a community clean up? Far from being an 'obligation', it can be a rewarding experience. On the Sunday of St Patrick's weekend, sixteen of our neighbourhood got together and spent the afternoon picking up litter that other people had thrown into the hedgerows. As a result we transformed our rural area.

Hayes Launches Forest Neighbourwood Scheme 2016

Noting the value of appropriate facilities in which to exercise, Mr. Tom Hayes, T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine with responsibility for forestry, recently launched the opening of the NeighbourWood Scheme for 2016, commenting “NeighbourWoods deliver a wide range of benefits to local communities and wider society by providing opportunities for exercise, recreation and relaxation, creating important wildlife habitats, mitigating noise pollution, promoting air quality and improving the visual landscape”.

Strategic Planning is Needed to Address Ireland's Climate Challenges

 The EPA has today published a new research No. 159 "Ensemble of regional climate model projections for Ireland" on high resolution regional climate modelling projections for Ireland. 

The report reveals how key features of Ireland’s climate, including the average temperature, rainfall and the types of storms, are projected to change over the coming decades.
