Bloom 2017

Bloom was launched by Bord Bia in 2007 primarily as a promotional vehicle for horticulture; providing a showcase for garden plants, garden design, construction, horticulture, and gardening as a hobby. Based on similar successful formats such as the RHS Chelsea Flower Shows and RHS Hampton Court Palace shows, Bloom has numerous highly creative gardens and plant displays which are used to inspire and excite the public about gardening and garden design.

477 Kg of Municipal Waste Generated per Person in the EU

The amount of municipal waste generated per person in the European Union (EU) in 2015 amounted to 477 kg, down by 9% compared with its peak of 527 kg per person in 2002, but slightly up, for the first time since 2007, from the 474 kg recorded in 2014.

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council (DLRCC) has recently acquired Fernhill Park and Gardens and intends to develop the property as a Regional public park. Fernhill is a former substantial family residence with ancillary buildings on 34 hectares of land (gardens, parkland, woodland and agricultural land) just south of the Enniskerry Road at Stepaside, County Dublin.

New Application for Tracking Invasive Alien Species with Your Smartphone

The JRC has developed a smartphone app that will help citizens to capture and share information about 37 invasive alien species of Union concern in Europe. The 'Invasive Alien Species Europe' app, which contains detailed information and photos of those plants and animals, makes it possible for citizens to use their phones' GPS system and camera to capture images of them.
