The UCD garden allows visitors to walk with plants through half a billion years of plant evolutionary history. The show garden tells the story of plants moving from water onto land, making land suitable for animals which followed later.

Gum Litter Taskforce Launches 2016 National Gum Litter Education Campaign

The Gum Litter Taskforce (GLT) was out in force on the streets of Dublin this morning to launch its gum litter education campaign for 2016 which aims to reduce the amount of gum litter and change people’s behaviour towards littering.

Greenmount Florists’ Chelsea Success

Greenmount students Natalie Straney, Killyleagh, and Shannon Ormandy, Ballymena, have each won a Bronze Medal for their stunning design work at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. They were competing in the Final of the RHS Young Chelsea Florist of the Year Competition and had been asked to create a carnival headdress for a male participant.

The Santa Rita Living La Vida 120 Garden at Bord Bia's Bloom

After their inaugural show garden in 2015, Santa Rita will once again be exhibiting a show garden at Bord Bia’s 2016 Bloom-in-the-Park, to be held in Phoenix Park, Dublin 2nd – 6th June. Entitled ‘The Santa Rita Living La Vida 120’, the ‘Large Category’ show garden is inspired by the wine brands South American origins and will bring a flavour of Chile to Bloom this year.

Serene Sanctuary - Medium Show Garden Bloom 2016

The Irish Country Magazine garden is based on the concept of the earliest gardens, that of sanctuary. This garden is a contemporary interpretation of that ideal in its use of enclosing structures, water and lush green textural planting, and in its splashes of colour, with restful whites, blues and purples.

This garden originates from Yangzhou City in China, and contains traditional elements from the region. The Yangzhou garden is named “Yi Garden”, which literally means “The Garden of Friendship”.

No Need to Fear for the 'Lost Generation of Gardeners' in Northern Ireland

Concerns were expressed by the Royal Horticultural Society at the opening of this year’s Chelsea Flower Show that Britain has a ‘lost generation’ with no gardening skills. However, there need be no such concerns in Northern Ireland.

On 10th and 11th June Teagasc will host a major national centenary celebration at its research facility at Mellows Campus, Athenry, Co. Galway. Farming and Country Life 1916 is expected to attract over 50,000 visitors making it the single largest centenary celebration of farming and country life.

Bloom to Highlight the Importance of Mental Health, Breast Cancer and Crumlin Children's Hospital

Monday, 23rd May 2016 According to Bord Bia, this year’s Bloom event will draw attention to many important societal issues including mental health, breast cancer survivorship and Crumlin Children’s Hospital. Mindfulness, the plight of Syria refugees and the need for social inclusion in rural Ireland will also feature as key themes within the popular show garden area.

The Gritty City Turns Pretty this June Bank Holiday for Bloom Fringe Festival 2016. Bloom Fringe kicks off on Friday 3rd June @ 6pm in Dublin Castle with the Irish film premier of the Gangsta Gardener Ron Finley's film "Can You Dig This?" produced by John Legend followed by Q&A hosted by Peter Donegan of The Sod Show!
