The Phoenix Park Blooms as record 15,000 visit Bord Bia’s annual gardening and food show on opening day. Bord Bia has opened the gates for the second day of this year’s Bloom, the annual gardening, food and family festival. Organisers report a record number of 15,000 visitors have already experienced all things Bloom and it is anticipated that numbers will continue to rise as the event continues and the sun continues to shine.

Bloom has welcomed a number of VIPs so far, including the President of Ireland Michael D Higgins who, accompanied by his wife Mrs Sabina Higgins, officially opened the event yesterday. An Taoiseach Enda Kenny also visited the show yesterday and today will see more visitors to the park including Fianna Fáil Leader Micheál Martin TD and Simon Coveney TD, Minister for Agriculture, Food and Marine.

Bloom Show Manager Gary Graham, Bord Bia said “It’s always an honour to witness the number of special guests and the high number of visitors to Bloom. From the show gardens, to the Food Village and the craft displays, this year more than ever demonstrates the magnetism of all Bloom has to offer.”

Met Éireann is predicting continued sunny spells and high temperatures throughout the weekend and high numbers are expected to visit Bloom 2013. Organisers are advising visitors to bring plenty of sunscreen and to locate the free water points for water-bottle refills on arrival. There are also almost 3 acres of marquee-covered space providing shade. Revised traffic plans have been put in place and additional car parks have been opened to accommodate high volumes of visitors. Those intending to visit Bloom are also encouraged to avail of public transport and the free shuttle services that are available from the main gates to the Phoenix Park and from Heuston Station.
