SCD Landscape Students to Bloom Once Again

Landscape Students to Bloom once again…you can too!
Design students from Senior College Dun Laoghaire (SCD) will once again return to Bloom to demonstrate the skills, knowledge and expertise they’ve acquired over their two years of study. With past students having secured medals in 2007, 08, 09, 10, 12, this year’s entrants are under no illusions about the pressure they’re under.

Anne Whelan, who is in the process of completing a HND in Garden Design, is putting the final touches to ‘The Urban Clearing’, a garden which explores how innate connections to natural woodland spaces can be stylised to create a calming retreat for urban living. The garden is being supported by staff and students from SCD and Dun Laoghaire College of Further Education and Garden World Nurseries. Colette Lemarie-Brady, who is also completing a Garden Design HND, is creating a garden for Aspire (The Asperger’s Association of Ireland), which explores her personal experience of how Asperger’s sufferers relate to the world around them. Colette’s garden is being supported by Kiltipper Garden Centre, Greenwood Furniture and the staff and students from SCD.

SCD will also be represented at Bloom by two Landscape Design graduates, Tunde Szentesi and Svaja Vaicula, who are creating a very exciting garden focusing on sustainability, upcycling and water harvesting. Entitled, ‘The Eco Tango Garden’, it will feature a number of eco-friendly elements…not to mention some amazing tango dancing! The garden is being supported by the Rainstore.ie and is the culmination of two years’ work by the enthusiastic design partnership.

SCD’s record at Bloom and the level of design training delivered are unmatched by any other Irish college. SCD graduates secure employment, create jobs and opportunities and have the option to progress directly to year three of a number of BSc landscape and garden architecture courses. If you’re interested in pursuing a career in design, why not come along to the graduate exhibition, which opens on Wednesday 8 May at 10am in the Town Hall Dun Laoghaire and runs until 1.00pm on Thursday 9 May. The exhibition coincides with the College’s May Open Day which takes place on Wednesday 8 May from 2-8pm. To learn more about the design courses on offer, visit SCD or visit our facebook community.
